Gunnawirra

The mission of Gunawirra is about working together with communities to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island mothers and children. Gunawirra empowers young Aboriginal and Torres Strait mothers to break the cycle of suffering by delivering innovative, transformational and culturally appropriate programs fully evaluated by research.

Connect has been working alongside Gunnawirra for two years now, supporting the organisation by providing culturally safe transport services for women and their young children attending Gunawirra’s base in Rozelle.

Heading up Gunawirra is Graham Toomey, a proud Wiradjuri and Wongaibon man from western NSW.  In addition to his role as CEO of Gunawirra, Graham is also an incredibly talented artist.

On behalf of Connect, General Manager, Brett Andrews was honoured last week to accept a piece of Graham’s art as a gesture of appreciation for Connect’s support.  The artwork features the goanna, which is a totem for the Wiradjuri people, protecting them on their sacred lands.

Visit the Gunnawirra website to learn more about the fantastic programs in place for Aboriginal women and children.

To arrange transportation to Gunawirra or for any other of Connect’s services, please call the office on 9558 6800.
